Figurative Paintings with expressive colours: Carolin Gödeke is often travelling for several months to South
India for her studies in classical Indian dance. There, she is always finding inspirations for her paintings. In Indian
culture, spirituality is also rooted in the simplicity of daily life. Metaphysical and material dimensions are woven into
each other and are creating a very complex definition of reality with floating transitions. On large canvases, Carolin
Gödeke is portraying women which are set between mythological characters and human beings. The paintings are influenced
by Hindi iconography, but they also have their own subjectivity and dynamics, they are melting the different influences of
eastern and western cultures.
